did you hate the '80s?
15 March 2005

well i sure didn't! heck, i loved the '80s so much i decided i'd audition to host a show about the good ol' days. unfortunately, they let me in!

'twill be a glorious delighting in songs we swore to never think about unless we were trying to figure out new and creative ways to throw up on command. not that i've done that or anything, but you get the picture.

i'll be singing a bunch of old favorites with a few fellow faulknerites, and let me tell you right now this show is 100% entertaining. it has bled my soul dry in the last 2 months, but at least i've had fun doing it! mwaha.

anyway, if any of you people out there who give a hoot about this blog get a chance, you should come down for the weekend and have a listen, especially if you have/had an affinity for any of these artists:

kool and the gang
r.e.o. speedwagon
tiffany
george michael
debbie gibson
lee greenwood
joe cocker
cyndi lauper
simple minds
crystal gayle
dolly parton
kenny rogers
alabama
joan jett and the blackhearts
devo
styx

yes, these and a few others will have their songs beautifully butchered by yours truly and a few others this weekend in the tine davis gym of faulkner university. come and enjoy this little treat. relive the decade of decadence... decadently!

now that my little spiel is over, i really have enjoyed this experience of getting to work with some awesome people on an insanely fun and entertaining project of sorts. just tonight i had the most fun ever picking out my outfits for each act. i never thought in my entire life i'd wear anything in the realm of bright pink, but things don't ever work out quite the way we foresee them, now do they? it's been an impressive semester so far watching the social clubs maintain a good attitude in general about things with this competition. i'd always heard about how horrible this event made people toward each other, how it caused folks to fail out of school left and right and broke many a great friendship into smithereens. i am so thankful that God has sent John Gordon to be a great leader, facilitator, and mediator in this whole effort. he has encouraged the fostering of a truly humble Christian spirit among the organizations taking part, and he is most certainly a true example of the love of Christ in every circumstance (except for when he tries to smack me in the boys with his microphone). i'm pumped about this weekend and the great memories it will cap this semester with. here's to the first big night on thursday, the top of the hill on friday, and the no-holds-barred, gut-wrenching performance of saturday night.

see ya there!
