great things happenin'

patrick is the man. just this past monday a group of us guys met for a sexual purity group. it was awesome. many props to patrick for the vision. i'm looking forward to next monday already. it's neat to hear bits and pieces of other guys stories. there was a whole range of battles and victories over porn addiction, promiscuity, lust and masturbation. to top it all off, we're studying from the book every young man's battle, by steve arterburn. steve is one of my favorite writers. it is so encouraging to know that you are not alone when it comes to stuff like this. really just blows the lid off of satan's can of lies. sets you free. like i said, looking forward to the next meeting.

i meet with the praise team for "big church" tomorrow. i don't know what to expect really. paul evans just told me last week that he wanted me to lead worship on sunday morning, to which i replied, "uhhhh... thank you? thanks! awesome!" typical college student response. grrrrr... anyway, i'm wicked excited about it. great opportunity to lead God's people.

at the purity group i was asked to lead worship next week in chapel, too. never done that either. still looking forward to it though. it's scary when i really think about it: i'll be singing sunday through wednesday. that's four days in a row. i hope i don't sing myself to death!

i've gotten my ducks in a row for next semester now. actually, i have my next year and a half plotted out classwise. my class load will be so stinkin' light until i graduate, so i'll be able to focus on other pursuits a little bit more. that means i'll be able to spend more time with jen, take voice and piano lessons, work on arrangements with will, and practice guitar.

i decided to take piano since i have to know it to be able to learn another instrument: the accordion... duh duh duh! yeah, laugh your head off, but the accordion can be a sweet sound when tactfully used in a song. what prompts this decision to chalk up more nerd points, you may ask? well, here's the background story... my grandma is a huge accordion champ. ever since she was a girl she played the accordion, and every time i go to family affairs in panama city she pulls it out and we sing and play gospel stuff. well, none of my aunts or uncles took up the instrument growing up, and i don't know why but i just have this desire to not let it die out, so i resolved to learn it. no polka jokes, please.

where You are
beautiful song, and yes that is an accordion backing up the acoustic!
