a long intermission

bad! naughty! blogger!

i've been busy. sue me. but anyway, it's the season of overwhelming busyness, which usually leads to a pattern of once-a-month posts on my part. i've had at least 2 weeks to come up with another person i am ever-so-thankful for, but that will continue in the next post. summary: in the last couple of weeks i've had a great thanksgiving with jen's family, we got a dog, my mom paid a surprise visit from california, my brakes went out on my truck, and i got a second job. a lot to talk about, right?!

thanksgiving was pretty good this year. i'm getting used to the fact that adulthood means not always spending holidays with your immediate family, which is ok when you're at least with people you know and love. it was fun just getting to spend time jen's family, who are all great folks in my book. i think i scored some cool points after hooking up a dvd player for jen's mom.

the next day, we headed out to atlanta for some good times with the other half of jen's fam. it was her nephew's birthday that weekend, so we tore it up at the new georgia aquarium. what's funny is that i think jen and i enjoyed it more than the nephew. my conclusion: some kids love exploring and touching neat things like sting rays and sharks, while other kids just need you to take them to a movie. still, it was quality time with the nephew who already calls me uncle david. i'm lovin' that.

so after atlanta, we drove to savannah to pick up our little girl, a beautiful little chocolate lab puppy we've named molly (short for the unsinkable molly brown). we are currently experiencing the perils of potty training, as well as the arduous task of bite-proofing everything that doesn't look like a chew toy. molly is a good little girl, and i'm noticing every day or so how she is growing like a weed.

momma flew into town from california for over a week, and all i got was a single afternoon with her! if only i wouldn't have used up all my allowable class and chapel absences, i could have skipped out on school all week to spend time with her. i've learned my lesson... maybe. i'm a pro at pushing the limit on chapel absences. maybe i shouldn't boast about that. it really stank, though, only getting half a day to hang out and drive around with her. and what stank about it all was that i was just having one of those mellow quiet moods. don't know why those happen, or where they come from, but they just hit me every once in a while. at least i got to see her.

the day after mom left for the desert, my brakes decided to disppear. they are fixed. yes, i may owe a nice hefty sum of dinero to the parents for my irresponsibility, but they are fixed. lesson learned. 'nuff said.

i am now an associate at books-a-million, shelving books all day and taking orders from the man. it's really a cool job, and i do love it. i mean, for once i don't mind getting to work early, since i can just kick back for a few and read a book before i get down to business making lattes and reshelving all of those mountains of books people leave laying around. i can now tell you about the top selling authors at the store, as well as how i get to catch people trying to be sly about reading the sex books. every crate i open up to stock, there is a small pile of erotica which tells me that sex definitely sells in bookstores. just the other day i was shelving in the fiction section, and this dude with 4 little boys in tow was just browsing for trashy novels, with the kids watching! anyway, i get to work with some really cool people, and some really weird people too, but the cool folks outweigh the weird ones, so i'm loving my job.

time to go take my 2 finals now, then i'm done!
