a portrait in 25 songs
01.28.06

something random and cool: i thought i'd check out the little shuffle feature on my mp3 player that generates a random playlist, and list the first 25 songs. yeah, yeah, it's one of those things that everybody on myspace puts up, but i think it's interesting. does your music define you? maybe so. i'll have to think on that.

1. heart of worship- matt redman
2. closer- charlie hall
3. songs of the redeemed- charlie hall
4. make believe Jesus- shane&shane
5. praise to the Lord- passion/watermark
6. everything that's beautiful- chris tomlin
7. blessed be your name- matt redman
8. lover- derek webb
9. yearn- shane&shane
10. sending- charlie hall
11. the roses- caedmon's call
12. come home running- chris tomlin
13. not to us- chris tomlin
14. faith my eyes- caedmon's call
15. on our side- chris tomlin
16. holy is the Lord- city on a hill
17. acres of hope- shane&shane
18. remember- watermark
19. mission's flame- matt redman
20. praise awaits You- matt redman
21. center aisle- caedmon's call
22. chapter one- shane&shane
23. peace- watermark
24. o worship the King- passion/chris tomlin
25. sarala- caedmon's call

that is kind of odd; i have way more music than that, and yet those are the songs the gadget spits out at me. barrels full o' tomlin and shane&shane, not to mention caedmon's, matt redman and charlie hall. weird. this music is where my heart is, so maybe it is a good profile of who i am, or at least who i am striving to be.

some good lyrics to close- seriously convicting stuff i've been thinking about this past afternoon.

my enemies are men like me
1
i have come to give you life
and to show you how to live it
i have come to make things right
to heal their ears and show you how to forgive them

pre-chorus
because i would rather die
i would rather die
i would rather die
than to take your life

chorus
how can i kill the ones i'm supposed to love
my enemies are men like me
i will protest the sword if it's not wielded well
my enemies are men like me

2
peace by way of war is like purity by way of fornication
it's like telling someone murder is wrong
and then showing them by way of execution

bridge
when justice is bought and sold just like weapons of war
the ones who always pay are the poorest of the poor

~derek webb, mockingbird

what especially grabs my attention is that second verse:
peace by way of war is like purity by way of fornication
it's like telling someone murder is wrong
and then showing them by way of execution

holy cow that's potent stuff. don't know how to handle that. thank you, d. webb, thank you very much.
