passion- beyond awesome
01.09.06

passion truly was incredible, a perfect launchpad for a great new year. if i could even begin to explain what all i learned and absorbed from that place over the past week it would fill a season's worth of posts for sure. maybe some highlights are in order?

1. i want to have david crowder's baby.
not that this feat is humanly possible, since i obviously don't have the plumbing for such a thing, but crowder was just that awesome. i saw his band perform at a late night concert the first night in town, and boy, they do not fail to impress anybody. would've loved to hear some of his deeper stuff, like how great, but most of the other material was beyond surface level, so i was plenty satisfied.

2. God is glorious.
everything He creates is filled with His glory. i am a creation in the image of God. i am a son of God.

deduction: i am glorious. good thought.

3. God rocked my world (via john piper).
big surprise there, but seriously, we had this one particular lesson where john quoted some monk from a newspaper interview. upon being questioned on the validity of his faith, the monk replied with something along the lines of, "if everything i believe is fake and meaningless, then at least i have lived a good life and been satisfied." i was in mid-nod as piper shouted, "wrong!," which scared the crap out of me and immediately made me change my nod yes to a shake no. check this out:

"if only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all others." -1 corinthians 15:19 (tniv)

i have never noticed that. this changes some things, and to think i've had that monk's answer floating in my head since high school. i need to soak up God's word so much more. i felt foolish in that little moment, which i think was supposed to happen. also, dr. piper spoke out mainly upon the topic of suffering, which is never easy to discuss, but i think i was a lot better for having some good brain-jerky to gnaw on for the next year.

4. God rocked my world again (via beth moore).
for crying out loud, i cannot say it enough: i need to read my bible! a lot!

5. God, yet again, rocked my world (via louie giglio).
if you truly were able to comprehend even a smidgeon of how large the universe is, and compare yourself to it, then imagine the kind of God who would create such a thing, and then even further that He wants an intimate friendship with little speck-o'-dust you, knowing your deepest thoughts, desires, feelings, and wishes... man, that is so undeniably incredible. God is so great!

6. worship was terrific.
'nuff said.

other stuff worthy of note:
i saw watermark, live in the ryman. i was like 10 feet away from them.
i crossed the street with tim hughes. he's a funny guy.
got the new charlie hall cd. it's good material. short, but good. just like almost every worship leader at passion.
i had the coolest family group ever. they're (hopefully) reading this at some point.

i needed this. God supplied me with so much encouragement. i pray that this year will find me exploring newer, frightening depths of satisfaction and adventure with God.

can't wait for next year!
