we're servants to love in lost humanity
one thing that has spoken volumes to me happened this past wednesday in the upper room. some of my friends who were able to head down last weekend got up to speak about their experiences and what they saw God doing in gulfport. the Spirit convicted me so strongly, especially when i got to hear my buddy, tex, share his outlook on the spiritual and physical state of the the people there. i work with tex a lot, and i've never really gotten to see him in too many serious moods; he is pretty lighthearted most of the time, and always good for a laugh when you need it, but seeing him being so real about this whole thing, and getting a little choked up on it, i have really found a whole new amount of respect for him. he is real, and a good friend, and a dedicated man of God, and i am pretty sure that's something i need to keep myself aligned with. much love for tex.
jen and i were talking today about an interesting thing that happened to her in the upper room last night. we heard that our friend laurel had written her name under the carpet in her church which we had a team working on. somebody had torn up the carpet and seen her name underneath. well, jen looked over at laurel with her family and remembered that when the upper room was being built, the campus ministry went upstairs to it and spent a lot of time writing scripture on the floor and praying over it. laurel has been going through a lot of rough times recently with her mom battling cancer and having to deal with the mess down south as well. turns out they were sitting right on top of where jen's verse was written.
the verse:
"to everything there is a season,
a time for every purpose under heaven[.]"
-ecclesiastes 3:1 (nkjv)
she shared that verse with them.
coincidence? i think not.
many prayers for the walker family.
today i thank God that He is gracious, slow to anger, rich in love and good to all. i praise Him, God of blessing and God of calamity. thank You for not delivering unto me the tsunami or hurricane that i deserve, Lord. thank You for mixing mercy with judgment. keep me close to You, Lord. Your presence is my delight, in the calm and in the storm. permit that this weekend i could share in the privilege of being Your hands and feet to those who are recovering in the aftermath of katrina.
holy roar
watermark
trees of life are blooming
and Your word plants the seed
we see it growing
Your kindness leading to repentance
and we see traces of deliverance
Lord, thank You for mercy
oh, can you hear it?
it's the song of the redeemed
the pursuit of passion for the One who set us free
oh, can you hear it?
we're crying out for more
so listen to our song
it's turning into a holy roar
rivers of renewal
Spirit, whisper a revival
and send us rushing
Lord, send us rushing
open hearts with hopes of unity
we're servants to love in lost humanity
Lord, send us reaching
as we respond to who You are
and all that You have done
Lord, with our lives
with all that we are
we return to You, oh God
You are a holy God
we lay down our lives
our songs
these tears, Lord
can you hear the holy roar?
these cries, these prayers
can you hear the holy roar?
still hear the holy roar
