winds may blow, and rain may fall, but the Lord is my Rock, and as long as i stand upon Him i will not be shaken, i will not fear.

let's shift the paradigm a little. i mean, it's easy to be fearful of an approaching hurricane with sustained 175+ mph winds, right? it is easy to worry about one's life and well-being. it is easy to let anxiety and doubt overtake you when all around could fail you and plunge your life into the grave. so what makes hope a viable option?

for me, i look at a changed perspective, courtesy of the Holy Spirit by way of the psalms. they're good for thought, good for pondering, and (duh) God wrote them!

i look at every example of a storm in the book of psalms and see nothing more evident than the glory of the Lord. storms herald God's presence, His advancement into a territory as if to draw near and remind us of His power and deity. it is amazing how the world goes wild when God dips His finger into the whole mess. mountains bow down and crumble, trees clap and roar, and waters dance and whirl about like dervishes. the world is full of His glory, and to experience a taste of that sends it into a frenzy. when i see a storm, should not this same response fill my heart with awe, wonder and devotion?

"the Lord reigns, let the earth be glad; let the distant shores rejoice.
clouds and thick darkness surround Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.
fire goes before Him and consumes His foes on every side.
His lightning lights up the world; the earth sees and trembles.
the mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth.
the heavens proclaim His righteousness, and all the peoples see His glory.
all who worship images are put to shame, those who boast in idols worship Him, all you gods!
zion hears and rejoices and the villages of judah are glad because of Your judgments, o Lord.
for You, o Lord, are the Most High over all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods.
let those who love the Lord hate evil, for He guards the lives of His faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
light is shed upon the righteous and joy on the upright in heart.
rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous, and praise His holy name."
- psalm 97

i like the way sonicflood puts it in their song resonate:
let all nature sing,
let the earth rejoice,
we will resonate Your glory
let all living things
praise You with one voice,
we will resonate Your glory

beautiful.
