from the windoooooooooowwwwwwwwww...
washington, d.c. has got to be the perfect place for experiencing a million cultures since there are so many african, european, and asian influences to encounter (i'm probably leaving out some). as a result, i think most caucasians just learn to speak without an accent. i know that's what happened to me at least. but anyway, after living with that for a few years, then moving to the deep south, things are so radically different. tea is sweet. museums are few. country music reigns. people actually own and fly confederate flags. you don't find that in northern virginia.
and political correctness... oh my gosh! i never realized until i moved down here that people still refer to african-americans as black people, or even the "n word". and while we're on race, there are so many distinct races in the d.c. area that we don't really have room for an "us-them" mentality. not saying that it is prevalent down here in alabama, but it does exist and i've definitely seen it.
i came across this site yesterday that is pretty funny. it is definitely a piece of satire on race relations, but if i'm ever mistaken, then it is the most racist thing i've ever seen. but check it out. and remember to laugh.
