songs galore
13 July 2005

after 2 months of living wild and free, the do has been done away with. it's nice how the head feels so much cooler when there's a pound less of hair on it. i always find it funny how clothes look different with each haircut. anyway, on to significant stuff.

after jotting down as many of the possible songs for this next year as possible, i realize that it will be extremely difficult narrowing down the list to 7-10 perfect ones. yes, they are all great, but i know that only a fraction of them will really be "perfect" for the coming year. here are the songs i've introduced so far in the last 2 years:

1. because of who You are- ffh
2. better is one day- matt redman
3. consuming fire- tim hughes
4. enough- chris tomlin
5. facedown- matt redman
6. give us clean hands- charlie hall
7. holy is the Lord- chris tomlin
8. how great is our God- chris tomlin
9. i will offer up my life- matt redman
10. lead us up the mountain- matt redman
11. may the words of my mouth- tim hughes
12. o worship the King (remake)- chris tomlin
13. shout to the north- deliriou5!

i think there are probably more that should be added to that list, but for now i've forgotten. even larger yet, here's the near complete list of potentials for the upcoming fall and spring:

1. awaken the dawn- deliriou5!
2. beautiful One- tim hughes
3. blessed be Your name- matt redman
4. famous One- chris tomlin
5. humble King- brenton brown (omg)
6. Jesus, i my cross have taken- the smith band
7. knowing You- graham kendrick
8. let everything that has breath- matt redman
9. make a joyful noise/i will not be silent- david crowder band
10. marvelous light- charlie hall
11. sing to the King- billy foote
12. the Father's song- matt redman
13. the more i seek You- unknown (some friend of laurel's)
14. there's no one like our God- vicki beeching
15. when i think about the Lord- james huey
16. You are worthy- matt redman

to think that i'm not even finished brainstorming on that yet! so many songs, so much i want to do, but i really think that a task like this will really take some Spirit-led whittling- of the music, yes, but also of my own fleshly attachment to certain songs. my desire for this year is that God would lead me to teach particular songs that really say something that the church perhaps needs to hear more than normal. we have so many songs that describe God and tell of His might and power, and we sing so many songs that just scream, "help me! love me! save me!," which is good and all, but i've been feeling an urging to go toward worship that is so much more Christ-centered than it has been, that is not necessarily always upbeat and peppy 24/7. here's where the rubber meets the road.

it's all in the choosing now.
