a sign of things to come
02 July 2004

just got done with friday night basketball, and i am encouraged greatly by what has happened in the last 2 days.

i ate dinner with a couple of my older teens last night, and we got real about where we wanted this program to head, and what things were impeding that progress. i felt refreshed by their perspective, their hope, and their creativity. i saw more than a glimmer of true dedication to seeing this thing take off.

so tonight we had basketball, and i had another one of those God moments. i call them God moments because it feels like i'm not the one doing the talking, yeah the words are coming out of my mouth, but they're not my words. get it? anyway, i was having a God moment during our break for devotional, and afterward i began inviting all the kids to our upcoming gatherings and hangout times and what have you. a few kids who have yet to do anything "youth-groupy" came up to me and checked on times to show up and what to bring etc.

that was awesome.

the basketball crowd is pretty tough to get through with. i've been doing the devotional for about a month and a half and not gotten much visible success out of pulling in unchurched kids. for even 1 of them to approach me about any involvement is outstanding, and surely a sign of God opening the floodgates to let the people in.

tomorrow is our last minute trip to the wolf cave at mccormick's creek, so we'll see if they show up at 7:00am. God is sucking these kids in, slowly but surely picking up pace like a snowball effect.

i was made for stuff like this.
